A low-water lawn for the rest of your yard

A low-water lawn for the rest of your yard

Many Orange County homeowners are tired of mowing, watering and patching a lawn that browns out every summer. Artificial turf gives you a green yard all year without the weekly upkeep of real grass. Ocean Pacific Patios installs artificial turf from our base at 566 Sturgeon Dr in Costa Mesa.

We look at the whole backyard, not just the grass. A shaded seating area, a clean walkway and a lawn that stays green should fit together, so we plan where the turf starts and stops around your patio, planters and paths.

Planned with your patio, pergola and pavers

Planned with your patio, pergola and pavers

Turf works best when it meets a hard edge. A border of pavers or a concrete path gives the turf a clean line and keeps foot traffic off the seams. If you are also adding shade, we can plan the turf around the posts of a new cover so nothing has to be torn up later. See our patio covers in Orange County for shade options.

Planning everything at once also helps with drainage. A good install accounts for where water runs off the patio roof and hardscape, and grades the turf area so rain moves away from the house.

Choosing artificial grass for your home

Choosing artificial grass for your home

Artificial grass comes in different blade shapes, colors, pile heights and backings. Some products look like a fine front lawn, while others are made to stand up to heavy use. Before any artificial grass installation, we talk through how you use the space, then show you options that fit your yard and budget.

  • Look: blade color and shape decide how natural the lawn looks from the house and street.
  • Feel: a taller pile feels softer, while a shorter pile stands up and is easier to keep tidy.
  • Use: a play area, a dog run and a front lawn each call for a different choice.
  • Infill: most turf uses an infill between the blades to hold them up and add weight, and there are several types to compare.

Living with turf in the Orange County sun

Living with turf in the Orange County sun

Turf is easy to live with, but it is not zero upkeep. It gets hot in direct afternoon sun, so many homeowners pair it with shade or keep a hose nearby to cool it before kids play. You will also want to rinse it now and then and brush the blades to keep them standing up.

How it works

How your turf installation works

  1. Visit and measure

We look at the yard, measure the area and talk about how you use the space and what turf you like.

  2. Remove and grade

Old grass and roots come out, and a good install grades the soil so water drains away from the house.

  3. Build the base

A good install includes a compacted base layer and secure edges so the turf stays flat and drains well.

  4. Lay, seam and infill

A good install includes tight seams, secured edges, infill and brushing the blades upright.

I recently had a new solid insulated patio cover installed. My experience with Ocean Pacific Patios was amazing from start to finish. Charlie the Design Consultant was friendly and knowledgeable! Most importantly he was not pushy at all! He answered all my questions without hesitation. The Construction Manager, John, was wonderful too! He had great suggestions and expertise knowledge! Mario and his crew did an excellent job in the demolition of my old cover and installed the new one with precise skills! I have already recommended this company to three people. I have zero complaints!

We did a large front/backyard remodel and pool. John and his team did the Pergolas. Of the three separate contractors we used I would only recommend John. He and his team were professional and the quality was first rate. I really wish I had discovered John before I signed the contract with the main hardscape contractor. John's experience and excellent problem solving skills really saved the project. I highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios.

John and Charlie took on our complicated home patio pavers and drainage project this past fall 2025. It was small, so I was worried it would not be a priority for anyone - but they were prompt, fair, and no-nonsense. Their crews were expedient, knowledgeable and exceeded our expectations. They were patient while we selected just the right paver color, and made suggestions such as some small accent lights that have made a huge difference! Charlie is extremely knowledgeable and helped us to achieve a beautiful result that drains properly. They even helped locate and connect a drain line that was buried under some pavers we had placed years ago, leaving the area looking beautiful! I would highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios, without reservation. They are the best.

If you’re looking for a beautiful, high quality patio cover at a fair price, this is the company to use. Construction manager John Haynes handled all our design needs in a very professional manner. Tony and the install crew really know their stuff too.

After several bids and proposals with patio cover companies, we decided to go with Ocean Pacific to replace our old dilapidated patio cover. Charlie was informative and fair in presenting his numbers. John, the construction manager, in addition to his expertise in confirming the design details, was very helpful in referring a wood repair man (who did a great job). Demo day went smoothly. The crew was quick and efficient. Installation of the patio cover was spectacular - Hugo and his helper completed the job in one day! They were professional and answered my questions. They cleaned up the back yard after their completion. We are very happy with the patio cover. It turned out beautiful! Thank you, Ocean Pacific.

My wife and I selected Ocean Pacific Patios after receiving several different bids. From the beginning, Charlie came to our home and listened to what we wanted. During this process, Charlie suggested a different option that we had not thought of. He presented us a bid for our option and the new option he offered. We finally decided to go with Charlie’s option. Charlie and John came out for the final design meeting, at which time John made a production drawing of our new patio cover, which really helped tell us we made the right design decision. During the installation John’s crew was very professional and they left the work site clean, when finished. We are very happy with the new patio cover and glad Charlie suggested this option. I would highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios. Thanks Charlie and John.

By far the EASIEST process it was by working with Charlie Twitch who sealed the deal and outbid 6 other contractors and John Haynes whose expertise made this sunroom exactly to vision. This company is truly the sunroom experts of Orange County. Please trust me when I tell you, my yard was a complete disaster before this and not only did they demo the existing leaking cover which came with the house, but they helped me design the rest of the yard alongside others and were amazing coordinating and masterminding the final outcome. They are honest and treated me like family the entire time. Look no further. I already did the research for you!

We decided to work with John and his team at Ocean Pacific Patio after our due diligence in gathering a number of quotes and design ideas. We do not have a standard patio layout and so it was very important to have the right people who could understand our vision. After meeting with John and going over the details, it was clear to us that he could take us to the finish line with our outdoor patio cover. The build took two days and our space was kept very clean. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is first class. I would definitely recommend Ocean Pacific Patios to anyone who is looking to build their dream patio. Thank you 🙏🏽

Planning your budget

What sets the price of artificial turf

Every yard is different, so we price your project after we see it.

Size and shape

The square footage and the number of curves, cuts and seams change the turf and labor needed.

Removal and base prep

Taking out old grass, grading and building a compacted base is a large part of any turf job.

Turf product and edging

The turf you choose, the infill and the borders or pavers around it all affect the final number.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Still deciding? Call us and we will talk it through.

Call (949) 525-1267
How much does it cost to have artificial turf installed in your yard?

It depends on the size of the area, how much old grass and soil has to come out, the base and drainage work, the turf and infill you choose, and the edging around it. We measure your yard and give you a price for your exact project.

What is the downside to artificial turf?

Turf gets hot in direct sun, so a lawn in full afternoon sun can be warm underfoot. It also needs some care: an occasional rinse to clear dust and pollen, and brushing to keep the blades standing up. Planning shade nearby helps.

Is it possible to lay artificial turf directly on dirt?

It is not a good idea. Turf laid straight on dirt tends to sink, ripple and hold water in low spots. A proper job removes the old grass, grades the soil and adds a compacted base layer so the turf stays flat and drains.

Does rain drain through artificial turf?

Yes. Most turf has a backing that lets water pass through to the base below. The base and the grading underneath are what carry the water away, which is why a good install slopes the area so rain drains away from your house and patio.

Can you install turf at the same time as a patio cover or pavers?

Yes, and planning them together is often easier. We can set the turf edges against new pavers or a patio, and plan around the posts of a patio cover or pergola so the whole backyard is finished in one plan.
