Why choose a screen patio enclosure
A screen patio enclosure adds mesh walls below a solid or insulated patio cover. The roof handles sun and rain, and the screens deal with most things that fly, crawl or drift in. You still feel the air move and hear the yard, so the room keeps an outdoor feel.
Warm Orange County evenings can bring mosquitoes and flies into many backyards. A patio screen room lets you leave food on the table, keep the lights on after dark and sit outside without swatting. Leaves, petals and pool debris stay on the far side of the mesh too.

How a patio screen room is put together
Every screened room starts with the cover overhead. Our project photos show screened enclosures under aluminum covers, and the aim is wall framing that reads as part of that cover rather than an add-on. Our materials are Duralum wood grain embossed aluminum and 4K Aluminum extruded profiles, and we match the screen framing to the cover you have or plan.
The pieces that shape a screen room:
- Screen panels. Mesh held in frames between the posts, sized to each opening.
- Doors. Most screen rooms need at least one, ideally where you already walk out to the lawn, pool or side yard.
- Knee walls. We build knee walls, a low solid wall along the bottom that protects the mesh from chairs, pets and kids.
- The floor. Many screen rooms sit on an existing slab. Our own crew pours concrete and lays pavers, which means a new or wider floor can be planned with the room.

Choosing the screen mesh
We offer four types of screen mesh. The right one depends on what you want to keep out and how much view you want to keep:
- Standard mesh. Clear sight lines and good airflow, a common everyday choice.
- Finer mesh. A tighter weave aimed at very small biting insects.
- Pet-resistant mesh. A heavier screen often used low on the walls or on the door, where dogs and cats push and scratch.
- Solar or shade screen. A denser mesh that cuts glare and some heat on a sunny wall.
Some rooms mix types wall by wall, and we help you pick the mesh that suits each side.

Screen room or glass enclosure?
Screens keep the breeze moving and usually cost less than glass walls. Glass stops the wind and keeps more warmth in on cool coastal nights, so the room gets used on more evenings of the year. If that is closer to what you have in mind, see our glass patio enclosure options.
Thinking about glass down the road? We can frame your screen room so glass panels can go in later. Glass is heavier than mesh, so mention it at your first visit and the framing is sized for it from the start.

Adding screens to an existing patio cover
Screen walls can often go under a cover you already own, as long as it is in good shape and its posts and beams can carry wall framing. If it cannot, a new cover designed for screen walls may be the better route. Our patio enclosures overview compares screened rooms with the other enclosure styles.
Cities across Orange County treat walls under a patio cover in their own ways, so ask your building department what applies before the design is final. Ready to talk it through? Contact Ocean Pacific Patios with a few photos of your patio, or phone (949) 525-1267.

Posted on GoogleI recently had a new solid insulated patio cover installed. My experience with Ocean Pacific Patios was amazing from start to finish. Charlie the Design Consultant was friendly and knowledgeable! Most importantly he was not pushy at all! He answered all my questions without hesitation. The Construction Manager, John, was wonderful too! He had great suggestions and expertise knowledge! Mario and his crew did an excellent job in the demolition of my old cover and installed the new one with precise skills! I have already recommended this company to three people. I have zero complaints!

Posted on GoogleWe did a large front/backyard remodel and pool. John and his team did the Pergolas. Of the three separate contractors we used I would only recommend John. He and his team were professional and the quality was first rate. I really wish I had discovered John before I signed the contract with the main hardscape contractor. John's experience and excellent problem solving skills really saved the project. I highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios.

Posted on GoogleJohn and Charlie took on our complicated home patio pavers and drainage project this past fall 2025. It was small, so I was worried it would not be a priority for anyone - but they were prompt, fair, and no-nonsense. Their crews were expedient, knowledgeable and exceeded our expectations. They were patient while we selected just the right paver color, and made suggestions such as some small accent lights that have made a huge difference! Charlie is extremely knowledgeable and helped us to achieve a beautiful result that drains properly. They even helped locate and connect a drain line that was buried under some pavers we had placed years ago, leaving the area looking beautiful! I would highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios, without reservation. They are the best.

Posted on GoogleAfter several bids and proposals with patio cover companies, we decided to go with Ocean Pacific to replace our old dilapidated patio cover. Charlie was informative and fair in presenting his numbers. John, the construction manager, in addition to his expertise in confirming the design details, was very helpful in referring a wood repair man (who did a great job). Demo day went smoothly. The crew was quick and efficient. Installation of the patio cover was spectacular - Hugo and his helper completed the job in one day! They were professional and answered my questions. They cleaned up the back yard after their completion. We are very happy with the patio cover. It turned out beautiful! Thank you, Ocean Pacific.

Posted on GoogleMy wife and I selected Ocean Pacific Patios after receiving several different bids. From the beginning, Charlie came to our home and listened to what we wanted. During this process, Charlie suggested a different option that we had not thought of. He presented us a bid for our option and the new option he offered. We finally decided to go with Charlie’s option. Charlie and John came out for the final design meeting, at which time John made a production drawing of our new patio cover, which really helped tell us we made the right design decision. During the installation John’s crew was very professional and they left the work site clean, when finished. We are very happy with the new patio cover and glad Charlie suggested this option. I would highly recommend Ocean Pacific Patios. Thanks Charlie and John.

Posted on GoogleBy far the EASIEST process it was by working with Charlie Twitch who sealed the deal and outbid 6 other contractors and John Haynes whose expertise made this sunroom exactly to vision. This company is truly the sunroom experts of Orange County. Please trust me when I tell you, my yard was a complete disaster before this and not only did they demo the existing leaking cover which came with the house, but they helped me design the rest of the yard alongside others and were amazing coordinating and masterminding the final outcome. They are honest and treated me like family the entire time. Look no further. I already did the research for you!

Posted on GoogleWe decided to work with John and his team at Ocean Pacific Patio after our due diligence in gathering a number of quotes and design ideas. We do not have a standard patio layout and so it was very important to have the right people who could understand our vision. After meeting with John and going over the details, it was clear to us that he could take us to the finish line with our outdoor patio cover. The build took two days and our space was kept very clean. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is first class. I would definitely recommend Ocean Pacific Patios to anyone who is looking to build their dream patio. Thank you 🙏🏽
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Still deciding? Call us and we will talk it through.
Call (949) 525-1267Can you enclose an outdoor patio with screens?
Yes, and screens are often the lightest way to close in a covered patio. You need a solid or insulated roof overhead, plus posts and beams strong enough to hold wall frames. When an existing cover falls short, the usual answer is a new cover designed with the screen walls in mind.
How much does it cost to build a 20x20 screened in patio?
The biggest factor is whether you need a new cover or are screening an existing one, plus the roof type, mesh, number of doors, any knee walls and any new concrete. A 20x20 room also has more openings to frame than a smaller one. Request a quote with your patio's measurements for a real number.
Which screen mesh is best for a patio screen room?
Standard mesh is a common choice with the clearest view. A finer weave can help where tiny insects are the issue, pet-resistant mesh suits walls dogs or cats touch, and solar screen helps on the side with hard afternoon sun. We offer all four types.
Do I need a permit to add a screen enclosure in California?
It depends on your city and the design. Walls under a cover may be reviewed differently from an open patio cover, and the rules vary between Orange County cities. Ask your city's building department early in planning.
Can I switch my screen room to glass later?
Yes, when the room is framed for it. Glass panels are heavier than screens, so we can size the framing to carry them later. If you think you may want glass one day, tell us at the design stage.
How do I keep a screened patio enclosure clean?
Brush or vacuum the mesh lightly and hose it down a few times a year. Close to the ocean, that fresh water rinse also takes salt film off the aluminum frame. A small tear can usually be patched, or a single panel rescreened, without replacing the room.
